i love this story in the Bible anyway, even though it has a sad ending. check it, Moses gets together one guy from each of the 12 tribes of Israel. he tells them to go check out a nearby land – the land that God promised to the Israelites – Cannan. sounds like a great movie title doesn’t it? “Cannan” – now playing everywhere. i like it.

anyway, these 12 dudes go check out Cannan and come back to everybody and 10 jokers decide that the entire nation of Israel should not go to the land that God has promised to give them. 2 of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, tell Moses that they should go for it!

i love the tenacity and will to take hold of what God has in store for these guys. they knew that God had told them that they were going to have that land and they believed. even when 10 other guys didn’t believe they could over take the people that were already living in Cannan, these guys didn’t back down to them and encouraged their leader to go for it. 

the immediate story ends with the nation of Israel not going in and taking what God had given them, but the full story ended about 40 years later, when Joshua and Caleb led the children of Israel into the promised land while Moses watched from the top of a mountain, and all the other nay-sayers were in the ground! don’t let the nay-sayers get in the way of what God has promised you! if God says you can have it, take it!

2. heading over to Burnt Hickory tonight. the student ministry over there is kicking off their Disciple Now weekend tonight and my buddy Matt VanZant is leading worship for them tonight. he and his band have been in the recording studio for the past few weeks and he told me last night that he’s got some premixed tracks ready and he’s going to give me a CD tonight so i’m pretty pumped to get a sneak preview at all that stuff. i’ve never got a sneak peek at anything before except when i was in first grade and my mom and i went to “sneak-a-peek” before the school year started so we could meet my first grade teacher. so, yeah. i’m excited.

3. i read this today and i found it was pretty funny. and pretty true as well.

4. Callie and i will be going up to Canton tomorrow night to see her brother in a play. he’s one of the children in “the Sound of Music”. i’m very pumped up to hear the song that all the children sing when they are saying “goodnight”. that’s one of those songs that gets stuck in your head for 12 days and you can’t get it out no matter what else you listen to. should be a good one.

ok, so it might not have been that exact message but you get the point. however, i did find out a potential way to stop the spam from coming to your cell phone. according to this article, AT&T, Verizon & Sprint all of ways of stopping the spam sent to your phone. i haven’t tried out the instructions for AT&T yet, but i’m definitely going to give it a try. 

hopefully, you won’t ever have to experience the wonders of SMS spam, but if you do, at least there are ways to prevent it… hopefully.

we’re so pumped up and we can’t wait to get in there and starting making it our house.

we have been going non-stop this weekend to get ready for moving into our house. we spent all day saturday looking a furniture and driving around and thinking and dreaming about our house. sadly, we did not make the day trip to Alabama to surprise my buddy Grayson (who i will always call “Michael”) for his birthday. he didn’t know we had a group of people coming to surprise him but Callie and i had to back out the last second. but, we’re making plans to go to Navarre Beach when he will be getting married. so hopefully he’s not too mad at me.

sunday was a great day. i got to go to Freedom like a normal person. i didn’t have to be there to set up or stay late to tear down (although i kind of missed it… shhhh, don’t tell anyone) and i got to sleep in and go to church with my wife and dad. then after church i got to eat lunch with my wife and dad and then we all went and looked at the new house (since my dad hadn’t seen it yet). it was very strange not being behind-the-scenes of Freedom Church however it was great to experience what “normal” people experience at Freedom on Sunday mornings. so many times we get into the repetition of our calling, it’s nice to take a step back and see what the average attender/partner sees on Sunday morning. it makes me stop and re-appreciate all of the hard work our partners put in on Sunday morning (and during the week) to make it all happen at Freedom Church.

2. softball season starts back this upcoming Tuesday night and i’m pretty jacked up about it. we had “practice” last night which reall just constitutes all of us taking turns hitting while everyone else fields. i have a bruise on my hand this morning from catching a ball at first last night. i don’t know who threw it but i didn’t catch it in the pocket like you’re supposed to (obviously). first game is Tuesday night at 8:30.

3. heading out of town tomorrow for a quick day trip. i can’t say anything else about the trip because  you never know who reads your blog. so i’m not going to say any more about my quick one-day trip out of town. check out my twitter tomorrow for updates.

4. FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! this Sunday at Freedom we’re continuing our “Let’s Get it On” series and we’re talking about dealing with conflict in marriage. it should be a great day – especially coming off of the Sex Challenge this week. i expect to see many happy, smiling couples on Sunday morning.

recently, i just found out about his music videos. they are some of the best videos i have ever seen. especially the one for “The Good Life”. i’ve seen stuff like this before but never as good as this.
